Affirmation of Faith (WHAT WE BELIEVE)
THE BIBLE IS OUR SOLE AUTHORITY
God’s Word is our only completely reliable and truthful authority. Therefore, we accept the Bible as our Manual for living here at Dortches Baptist Church. When faced with any decision, we first interject the question “What does the Bible say?” We practice daily Bible reading, Bible Study, and Bible memorization. The Bible is the basis for all we believe. John 1:1, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Hebrews 4:12
OUR FAITH AND AFFILIATIONS
The doctrines, principles, convictions, and conduct of this Church shall be based upon the Holy Bible, which is the inspired, inerrant, infallible and completely true Word of God. We affiliate with the Southern Baptist State Convention, the NC Baptists, the North Roanoke Baptist Association, and we adhere to the “Baptist Faith and Message of 2000” as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention, so long as, in the opinion of this body, it does not contradict, change, or otherwise alter the Word of God. John 16:13, 2 Peter 1:21, James 1:18
AUTONOMY OF THE LOCAL CHURCH
Christ is the recognized head of our Church; not any person, group, or religious organization. We recognize the value of associating and cooperating with other groups of Christians, and we support those organizations both spiritually and financially. Our church is, as we believe every local church should be, an independent, self-governing church, free from any denominational contract. Colossians 1:17-18, Ephessians 5:23, 1 Corinthians 11 :3
BELIEVER PRIESTHOOD
Christ is our savior and our redeemer. Therefore, the Holy Spirit convicts all who believe in Christ, teaches the church in the voice of the living Christ, and empowers the church and all believers for the mission of Christ in the world. We believe that every believer is responsible for sharing the Gospel with all peoples. Furthennore, we agree that every believer has direct access to God through prayer and scripture. Revelation 1:6, 1 Peter 2:9, John 6:63
