Colossians 2:14 says, “He has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.”

Join us this Sunday night, March 20th, at 5:00 PM for a special worship experience.  Begin Holy Week by nailing your sins to the cross!

Paul said that we have been forgiven; Jesus has taken away our sin by nailing it to the cross.  At the end of our worship service, worshipers will have the chance to symbolically nail their names, sins, or whatever struggle they need to let go, to a wooden cross at the front of our sanctuary.  It will be an impactful experience, as the mixture of meditative music contrasts with the pounding away at nails.  With each clink of the hammer, another person will have just been released by the power of God’s grace.

Leading up to this experience, the Gospel story of the crucifixion will be read by Pastor Phil.  After a discussion guided by a PowerPoint presentation about the meaning of the cross, we will watch a video clip of a dramatic presentation of Jesus’ journey to the cross, culminating with the message, “He took my place.”

Even the meditation music during the nailing of the cross will be a unique experience that you won’t want to miss.  Pastor Phil has custom created a reflection video, set the unusual spiritual music of Gavin Bryars.  While recording the sounds of homeless in England, Gavin was struck by the ill tempo, yet strikingly in tune, musical expression of faith by an older beggar.  Despite the conditions he has face in life, he still clings to a hope grounded in a faith in Jesus Christ.  “Jesus blood never failed me yet,” the man chants.  Bryars allows the repetition of this simple confession of faith build, introducing musical instruments until it crescendos into a captivating and moving experience.

Please invite your family and friends to experience this kickoff to Holy Week.  This will not be our typical Sunday Evening Service.  Expect the movement of the Spirit to reorient the rest of your week around the cross as a result of this gathering for worship.
