Jesus gave Simon the nickname “Peter,” which in Greek means “rock.” Upon Peter’s profession of faith, Jesus explains that he will build his church on this rock.
As an early church leader, we would expect a smooth journey of faith. However, Peter’s walk had ups, down, and bumps in the road. Jesus worked with Peter like a stone-worker, and shaped him into the a stone that the church was built upon.
