If you were to ask the average person today, which sin concerns God the most, or which controversy is the most important for the future survival of the church, how many people do you think would say that “what we do with our money” should be at the top of the list? Well, based on the sheer volume of scripture God committed to this topic, I think it should be.
When you investigate the scriptures related to the controversial subject matters that Churches like to bicker and argue and split over, you will find that there are only a handful of scriptures that address those issues. However, there are over 2000 passages in the Bible that deal with our money and our possessions.
I think that so much of the Bible deals with this topic of money because God knew that we were gonna need some help to get this right. If we could get this issue right, a lot of other things would fall into place on their own. As Jesus said, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
